From the 9th to the middle 15thcentury, Cambodian artistic & architectural achievements reached their zenith. Particularly about the art of the lost wax method of bronze casting, used to create bronze images that reflected the religious, mystical, and sensual beauty of this culture. Their Hindu religious rituals were very important to the people and to the culture, and it was these beliefs that made the Khmer kingdom so powerful. Gradually the predominant religion of the Khmer kings shifted to Buddhism and the decline in the coercive authority of the Khmer Empire was followed by losses of territory to the Vietnamese and the Thais.
